Malaysia has achieved a remarkable milestone, climbing to third place in the 2025 global passport rankings. This marks a significant recognition of the strength, security and global trust placed in the Malaysian travel document.
According to the Passport Index, one of the world’s most referenced benchmarks for passport strength, Malaysian passport holders now enjoy visa free or visa on arrival access to approximately 174 destinations worldwide.
The overall ranking places Malaysia just behind the United Arab Emirates in first place, and Singapore and Spain, which hold joint second place.
Malaysia now shares this third position with several other highly ranked nations. These include Belgium, France, Germany, Finland, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Norway, Ireland and South Korea, reflecting Malaysia’s alignment with some of the world’s most trusted travel documents.
The Immigration Department of Malaysia noted that this achievement reflects the nation’s continued commitment to enhancing passport security features, maintaining international cooperation and strengthening diplomatic ties.
For Malaysians, this elevated ranking translates into greater global mobility, whether for business, education or leisure, opening up smoother access to countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and beyond.
