Romance in Real Life: Marrakech

12. Marrakech, Morocco

When I imagine myself in Marrakech, Morocco, my heart softens instantly, like it already knows this city was made for romantics like me. I picture arriving as the sun dips low, painting the walls of the Medina of Marrakech in warm shades of rose and gold. As a hopeless romantic, I don’t rush here; instead, I wander. I get lost on purpose in the narrow alleys, where every turn feels like a secret waiting to be discovered.

I dream of stepping into Jemaa el-Fnaa at twilight, when the square comes alive with music, lantern light, and drifting aromas of spices and tea. The chaos feels enchanting rather than overwhelming, like love itself; messy, vibrant, impossible to ignore. Somewhere in the crowd, I imagine pausing to share sweet mint tea, letting the noise fade into the background while the moment becomes ours.

In my daydreams, romance lives behind hidden doors. I imagine staying in a quiet riad, where a tiled courtyard fountain echoes softly and orange blossoms scent the air. I picture slow mornings beneath carved arches, sunlight spilling across mosaic floors, time stretching lazily as if it has nowhere else to be. Later, I wander through the Bahia Palace, tracing intricate patterns on the walls and wondering how something so detailed could exist without love guiding the hands that made it.

As evening approaches, I escape to the calm of the Majorelle Garden, where deep blues and lush greenery feel almost unreal. It’s the kind of place where feelings grow quietly, where holding someone’s hand would feel natural and unspoken. And when night finally falls, I imagine standing on a rooftop terrace, the call to prayer drifting across the city, stars scattered above the Medina, and the world feeling impossibly intimate.

In Marrakech, romance isn’t just felt—it’s layered. It’s in the colours, the sounds, the hidden courtyards, and the way the city invites you to slow down and feel deeply. In my imagination, Marrakech doesn’t just steal my heart but teaches it how to wander, how to ache beautifully, and how to believe in magic again.
