A Love Letter to Switzerland

Updated: Dec 22, 2020

You never fail to overwhelm me with your beauty. From the first time I set my eyes on you, you have kept me longing for more! Your natural beauty is always enchanting and will forever hold a very special place in my heart.

It has been a while since I last saw you and I miss you dearly. From the moment I stepped off on my first train trip from Zurich airport to Luzern (or Luzerne), it was the aroma of freshly baked pastries wafting through the air that welcomed me. That was the best type of greeting in my opinion. I missed it all - the way everything works with precision like clockwork; from public transportation to meet ups with friends. The clean fresh air, weather and atmosphere makes’ one calm; soothes the mind, spirit and soul.

My favorite time of the year would be around this time of the year when the trees and bustling hot spots will be lit with lights marking the start of the Christmas season. The Christmas markets would be filled with the beat of holiday cheers; traders and artisans setting up charming stalls with specially designed ornaments, printed scarves, a variety of hearty homemade foods and drinks.

I especially love the way the lights reflected off the lake at night; allowing the mind to transcend to a magical place. My walks along the quaint streets; ahhh…the thought of it brings back so much fond memories and a sense of belonging.

I was mesmerized by the way each city feels the same yet different in its own special way. My favorite city has to be Geneva. My 6 months placement in the city has brought me so much joy especially with the calming sight of the famously Jet d’Eau which translates to ‘water jet’. Did you know that this huge fountain on Geneva Lake is also one of the tallest fountains in the world?

I am often asked, why hospitality, why tourism and why it ought to be Switzerland? My answer to them would be “why not?” I believe that if you want to be the best, you will want to learn from the best. Switzerland boasts itself as the ‘crème de la crème country for hospitality and I can tell you, it definitely lives up to the name. As cliché as this may sound, one does not have to taste every chocolate spread in the world to know that Nutella is simply the best!

Being in Switzerland has taught me so much - earning to be independent, be punctual, experiences where no amount of money can buy, its richness of culture and the history that each city has to offer.

The photos I’ve taken here do not come close to substantiating the paradise that is Switzerland. One has to experience it in the flesh to know that all these images are not a mere exaggeration but nature’s greatest gift. Its geographical location and surroundings get the best of both cosmopolitan and metropolitan influences. Everyone should visit Switzerland at least once in their lifetime as I believe it is the heart of Europe.

Safe to say, there is no place I would rather be at than back in the comforts of this stunning country once everything regains some normalcy and the borders are open for international travel.

But until then, it is never a goodbye but a see you soon!

Sincerely yours

Grace Marie
